Physician Assistants Ranked Number One on Best Jobs List
Glassdoor, a fast-growing global jobs and career marketplace, ranked jobs across America on three key factors- number of job openings, earning potential and career opportunities- to name the Best Jobs in America for 2015. Physician Assistant earned the top spot on this list by standing out in all three categories.
Glassdoor reports that there are more than 45,000 job openings in the field, an average salary of $111,000 and a career opportunity rating of 3.5 on a scale of 1 to 5. Glassdoor created their overall Job Score on a 5-point scale (5.0=best job, 1.0=bad job) and Physician Assistant achieved a 4.8 on that measure.
Physician Assistant edged out high-profile careers such as Software Engineer and Business Development Manager to claim the top spot on the list. The growth potential of Physician Assistant jobs has been well-documented in other research as well. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of physician assistants is projected to grow 38 percent between now and 2022, far faster than the average for all occupations. This impressive growth is attributed to increased demand for healthcare services from the growing and aging population and widespread chronic disease, combined with a shortage of physicians.
