Melanoma/Cutaneous Oncology Update
From the SDPA 14th Annual Fall Dermatology Conference 2016, held November 3 – 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Topic: Melanoma/Cutaneous Oncology Update
Faculty: David Hymans, MD
1.) Understand the AJCC staging of malignant melanoma and the implications of such staging for management of melanoma. Limitations of current clinical staging and risk assessment paradigms will be discussed.
2.) Understand surgical decision-making in malignant melanoma and the options available for treatment. Understand the challenges and limitations of each approach so that rationale surgical strategies can be individualized for patients with malignant melanoma.
3.) Understand regional and systemic treatment options available for patients with high-risk of developing regional or distant disease recurrence after primary management of malignant melanoma. Understand not only the broad mechanisms of action of agents, but how they may be used in the adjuvant setting.
4.) Understand prognostic markers available for risk-assessment in patients with new diagnosis of malignant melanoma. Understand how individual and panels of markers can influence decision making, and augment classical staging approaches for optimizing individual treatment of melanoma patients.
